TOPEKA, Kan. – The Roberts for Senate campaign released the following statement regarding Greg Orman's campaign statements on the threat of bringing Guantanamo Bay terrorists to the United States and Fort Leavenworth.

"When the Obama Administration attempted to close Gitmo and move its terrorists to Fort Leavenworth in 2009, Senator Roberts fought the President tooth-and-nail -- and won," campaign manager Corry Bliss said. "Greg Orman's campaign should be ashamed of themselves for mocking Senator Roberts’ leadership to prevent Gitmo terrorists from coming to Kansas. However, it is no surprise that Mr. Orman would side with Barack Obama over what’s best for Kansas. He is a liberal Democrat who gave money to Obama, voted for Obama, and supports Obama’s policies – including amnesty, Obamacare, and higher taxes."

Orman campaign spokesman tweeted the following about Senator Roberts and his efforts to stop President Obama from bringing Gitmo terrorists to Kansas.

"Natural leaders don’t excel by instilling fear & cowardice in their people. But does the Senate Bedwetter's Caucus? …"

Background Information:

In 2009, Senator Roberts fought and won against President Obama’s attempt to close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp and transfer the terrorists to a military camp in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Here was his statement from 2009:

"I oppose any and all efforts to locate terrorists at Ft. Leavenworth. I have heard from the Ft. Leavenworth community, surrounding areas and Kansans from all corners of the state who are unequivocally opposed to housing these terrorists in Kansas…It will just make it less safe for Americans. Not in my backyard. Not in Kansas. I will shut down the Senate before I let that happen."
