The Kansans for Life (KFL) Political Action Committee is proud to join the National Right to Life Political Action Committee in endorsing U.S. Senator Pat Roberts (R-KS) for re-election. Senator Roberts has a 100 percent (64 out of 64) pro-life voting record.

While his status as a 100 percent pro-life voting incumbent to this seat is enough to earn the endorsement, we also want to take this opportunity to point out Senator Robert’s record of successful leadership related to two Obama nominees, and his actions to expose and protect Americans from Obamacare’s mandated rationing and denial of care.

From the first moment in 2009 when the Affordable Care Act (ACA) was referred to the two Senate committees on which he serves, Senator Roberts has acted in multiple ways to oppose the legislation.

Notable was Roberts’ work to expose, oppose and help successfully stop confirmation of President Obama’s 2010 recess appointment of health care rationing guru Dr. Donald Berwick to head Medicare.

Roberts also successfully thwarted the Senate confirmation of former Kansas Attorney General Steve Six when he was nominated by Obama to the federal bench. As attorney general, Six interfered with abortion-related investigations and prosecutions of Planned Parenthood and George Tiller. Roberts success in stopping Six’s confirmation in the Democrat-controlled Senate was a huge accomplishment— a direct reflection of his recognized integrity and seniority status. (Robert’s statement on Six is here.)

Finally, Kansans for Life and National Right to Life are extremely concerned by several aspects of Obamacare and equally concerned that the public has been kept in the dark about them. (See NRLC’s ACA report: here)

These include:

-- A 40 percent excise tax on employer paid health insurance premiums (scheduled to go into effect in 2018), that are above a government imposed limit that will not keep up with medical inflation. Forced premium reductions are, in practice, the same as forced reductions of care.

--The exclusion of adequate health insurance plans from the exchanges. (This is already implemented.)

-- Limits on senior citizens’ ability to add their own money on top of the government payment for health insurance (already implemented), and

--The Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) tasked with forcing private health care spending below the rate of medical inflation, with power to recommend measures limiting care doctors can give patients-- to be implemented as soon as 2016.

Senator Roberts not only vehemently opposes these rationing provisions, he has proposed legislation to spotlight and challenge them head on in S.2191, his “Repeal Rationing in Support of Life” bill. We believe this legislation will play a key role in educating many in the public now little aware of these additional Obamacare axes swinging above their heads, threatening to ration their ability to get vital life-saving medical treatment.

KFL Executive Director Mary Kay Culp said,

“It has never been as important as it is now to re-elect a man with the record and seniority of Senator Pat Roberts. Should the senate be returned to Republican hands as expected this fall, with the prospect of the presidency two years hence, Roberts would be situated as no other Kansas candidate could be to accomplish a goal he and a majority of Americans desire: ending Obamacare’s brazenly dishonest and ultimately dangerous takeover of America’s health care.”

She continued, “He and his colleagues could then replace that law with another: one that would declare any future health care proposals illegitimate unless, unlike Obamacare, they are handled openly and honestly with the American people, and tightly secured to bedrock regard for our freedoms, and respect for the sanctity of human life.”
