Topeka - The ACU Political Action Committee, the political arm of the American Conservative Union, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization and host of the annual CPAC conference, today announced its endorsement of Senator Pat Roberts.

“Sen. Roberts’ lifetime ACU rating of 86, as well as his average of 89 during the Obama Era, shows his consistent support of conservative principles on a wide variety of issues. He has fought for the rights of the unborn, supported the repeal of the Death Tax, and opposed many efforts to divert defense funds to big government domestic programs. In addition, Senator Roberts helped lead the successful fight to defeat one of the worst nominations by President Obama, that of Donald Berwick, who preferred the British system of government health care to ours, to head up the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Pat Roberts deserves the support of conservatives in the Republican Primary August 5.” said ACU Director of Government Relations Larry Hart.

Senator Roberts thanked the ACU for its endorsement saying, “I am very proud of my conservative voting record, and deeply appreciate the support of the ACU and their vast grassroots organization in the upcoming election. I have always fought for smaller government, lower taxes, and the protection of our constitutional freedoms, and I look forward to continuing to fight alongside my friends at the ACU both during and after this important election.”

According to the ACU’s release announcing its endorsement, the ACU Political Action Committee supports candidates for office who reflect the conservative principles on which ACU was founded. The goals of the ACU PAC are to increase the number of quality candidates who share a commitment to conservative principles and to protecting and advancing the fiscal, social, and security priorities of the Reagan era.

The ACU’s endorsement adds to the overwhelming and unprecedented amount support garnered by Senator Roberts ahead of the 2014 elections. Roberts is endorsed by 31 state senators, 79 state representatives, the entire Kansas congressional delegation, and all statewide GOP officials on the ballot this year. Additionally, he has support from National Right to Life, Kansans for Life, the Kansas State Rifle Association, the Kansas Farm Bureau, the Kansas Black Republican Council, Senator Bob Dole, Speaker Newt Gingrich, leading conservative and Washington Times Opinion Editor David Keene, and many others.
