Senator Pat Roberts Has Unprecedented Support Among GOP Across State;

Named 5th Most Conservative U.S. Senator By Heritage Action

Topeka, KS — As Pat Roberts heads into re-election with an unprecedented series of endorsements from Kansas Republicans and conservative organizations across the state, Heritage Action for America lists Roberts as the fifth most conservative Senator in the U.S. Senate.

Heritage Action for America is the political arm of the widely respected Heritage Foundation. The top five are: Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), Rand Paul (R-KY), Tim Scott (R-SC) and Pat Roberts. This latest ranking adds to Roberts’ stellar record, which now includes:

  • An 89% from Heritage Action – The 5th most conservative Senator in 2013
  • A 93% from Freedomworks - The 5th highest score in the U.S. Senate
  • A 93% from Americans for Prosperity
  • A 100% score with Right to Life
  • A 100% from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce - 2012 voting record
  • An A rating from both the NRA and Gun Owners of America

This list of endorsements is all-encompassing and includes:

  • The entire Kansas Congressional Delegation
  • All statewide officials on the 2014 ballot
  • 77 of 92 Republican State Representatives
  • 31 of 32 Republican State Senators
  • The Kansas State Rifle Association
  • Kansas Black Republican Council

Western Kansas Tea Party activist Roger Ewing, a Hays resident and a former U.S. Air Force officer, endorsed Pat Roberts' 2014 Senate bid saying, "Pat Roberts is a Marine who is always fighting for the values and policies we treasure most. Senator Roberts is a staunch advocate for a strong national defense, which is the number one obligation of our federal government. As the senior Marine in the U.S. Senate, few speak with more authority or knowledge on national security issues. In addition, Senator Roberts understands that America must address its debt problem and embrace principles of limited government. He is a trusted, tested and tough conservative leader. We need him representing us in Washington."

Fred Logan, a former Chairman of the Kansas Republican Party, long-time and respected Kansas political observer and Johnson County attorney, reacted to the remarkable and historic nature of the broad and deep base supporting the Roberts Campaign.

“On a statewide level we really haven’t seen this level of broad based support for one candidate in the modern Republican party since Bob Dole. Truly what Roberts is doing is historic. The number and ideological range of endorsements is impressive if not overwhelming particularly when you look at the make-up of the Kansas legislature. Many of the legislators are relatively new to the process, and by any measurement it is the most conservative bunch we’ve had. And, clearly, Senator Roberts is popular with the GOP Caucus. They understand he has earned high marks from Heritage and Americans for Prosperity. I’m impressed by the strong support Roberts is earning not only under the Statehouse dome, but among important grassroots organizations such as the Kansas State Rifle Association. He has support among the Tea Party. That pretty much covers all bases.”

“Pat Roberts is a unifying figure. His record proves it. He listens to Kansans. They like him. They trust him. Moreover, he’s a fighter who knows elections are won with grit, discipline and hard-work. To say the least, I like his chances.”
